Nick Berg Had Ties To Vermont

UPDATED: 1:18 PM EDT May 13, 2004
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- The American who was beheaded in Iraq had ties to Vermont.

Sources told NewsChannel 5 that Nick Berg was enrolled in the Brattleboro School for International Training's study abroad program in Uganda.

Meanwhile, a CIA source said Thursday the agency concluded that wanted terror suspect Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is the person shown on video cutting off Berg's head. (Full Story.)

Friends and family members describe Berg as smart, funny and enormously generous.

His father said Berg returned from his trip to Ghana emaciated because he gave away most of his food, and the only possessions he had were the clothes on his back.

Michael Berg said, "That's the kind of passion we're dealing with here."
